In Jake's Shoes — A Father's Journey Through Loss and Redemption (by Andrew C. Phillips)

This is an emotional story of love, loss, regret, dedication, and a sense of redemption. I loved reading the letters Jake wrote to his grandmother, Granny Gat. What an enlightening time as you experience Jake’s angst growing up and his worries and struggles. Through these letters you will have flashback memories for his father, Marshall. This is a powerful story that will tug at your heartstrings. You will have tears streaming down your face one moment and then growling in exasperation the next as you experience Marshall’s unhappiness and impatience with his son, Jake. Two majors points I took away from this read: 1) trauma can affect us in many ways and 2) you do not know how many days you have left on earth. How will you respond to the heartbreaking and life changing moments and what do you want to do with your remaining days on earth? You will absorb every word in this emotional story and close the book with a sigh, knowing that it will stay on your heart and mind for days to come.
