The Righteous (by Ronald H. Balson)

I love reading historical fiction books and especially those that are set during WWII. Ronald Balson is one of my favorite authors. After reading Once We Were Brothers, I have made an effort to read every book when it is released. The focus of this book was different than those I typically read. Set at the end of WWII, it takes place in Hungary. The historical details were well researched and presented in accurate detail. However, the characters and the actual story line were not as well developed and did not flow smoothly. Even with this less than positive aspect, I enjoyed the book and found myself immersed in the life of Jewish people in Budapest before and during the Nazi invasion of Hungary. And, once again, I am left in awe of the people who were willing to sacrifice everything to stop Hitler’s reign of terror.
