A Letter from Italy (by Rose Alexander)

I love reading historical fiction books and especially those that take place during WWII. This book’s focus was different than those I typically read. It takes place in Italy and had a little more of a romance factor than I normally appreciate. However, the author does an amazing job of describing the visual beauty and delicious food of Italy that it brings it to life! The characters were well-developed and I loved the dual timeline aspect. It was interesting taking a journey through the pages with Sadie as she begins the search for her birth parents. And as you discover details of life during WWII with her mother and the other people who worked as decoders and cyphers, you will be drawn into the story. I continue to be amazed at the people who were willing to take on difficult and dangerous jobs as part of the effort to stop Hitler’s attempt to rid the world of Jewish people. A story of love, loss, hope, secrets, and courage. This is one to read!
