The Orphan from Verona (by Siobhan Daiko)

I love reading historical fiction books and especially if they are set during WWII. It has become increasingly difficult to find a book that brings a new aspect to that time period. But Siobhan Daiko did a fabulous job of pulling me into the story and being invested in the lives of the characters. Being a dual timeline book was a plus for me and it was easy to keep track of whether you are in 1944 or the 2000s. The sense of community that surrounded Robi and Elisa was so heartwarming. There are tense moments and times when a few tears will trickle down your checks. A story of family, love, loss, community, devastation, healing, and the never-ending power of hope.
