The Last Day in Paris ~ The Paris Sisters #1 (by Suzanne Kelman)

What an emotional read. I absolutely love historical fiction books and especially those that are set during the WWII time period. This has a dual timeline aspect which is a plus for me. Having read the prequel, The Paris Orphans, I was anxiously waiting to see how actions in this book caused situations that occurred in the prequel. The characters are well developed and your heart will ache at what they endure during this time of Hitler’s reign of terror. The focus is a little different than my typical book in this genre. The Nazis have taken control of Paris and their horrendous behaviors are still described. But this particular WWII novel deals more with the aspect of art and the need to save it for future generations. The efforts of two women to protect and save art from being stolen or destroyed was remarkable. This is a story of love, loss, discovery, family, courage, determination, and dedication. Your heart will break but watching these amazing characters do everything within their power to protect the people of France and their heritage through art will lift your spirits. I am looking forward to absorbing the second book in The Paris Sisters series.

While books in the romance genre are not my favorite, this book was a delight to read. I loved the characters ... from Mary to Beckett to Gramps, Beckett’s elderly father. They were realistic and like
