The Enemy's Wife ~ Survivors of War #2 (by Deborah Swift)

1 min read

I love reading historical fiction books, and especially when they are set WWII time. Period. Period. This second book Survivors of War series by Deborah Swift was interesting because it took place in Shanghai, China. The primary character, Zofia, find herself in a unique situation because she is married to a Japanese man who has been conscripted to fight in their army. The trauma that the citizens of Shanghai experience when the Japanese invade is chilling and gripping. The author’s research shines through and you will experience danger, intrigue, distress, and emotionally-charged moments. Zofia, strength and determination will have you cheering her own as she struggles to do what is right. This is an emotional read, but worth every second of loss, brutality, hunger, fear in order to discover a path to hope and resilience.
