The Borrowed Life of Frederick Fife (by Anna Johnston)

I had looked forward to reading The Borrowed Life of Frederick Fife. However, my anticipation was not met with a positive experience. The story line had so much potential but did not fulfill the promise the synopsis hinted at. I wish publishers would stop trying to convince people to read a book because it will remind you of another book that received outstanding reviews. For example, just because the book is about an elderly gentleman does not mean it is as good as A Man Called Ove. There were several serious topics introduced in the book … elder abuse, neglect, addiction. And while there are some heartwarming moments, it does not make up for the rude and crude body function descriptions or the cringing moments of elder abuse and mistreatment of the residents of the nursing home. I almost did not finish but was determined to stay with it to the end.

Thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
