Letters from My Sister (by Valerie Fraser Luesse)

I have loved several books by the author, Valerie Fraser Luesse. However, this one did not appeal to me as much as others. I struggled staying invested in the story, though I wanted to care about the journey Callie finds herself traveling while she recovers from her head injury. One aspect I did not care for was the characters who saw visions. While being touted as being a gift from God, I found it off putting. I think the title of the book is misleading in that there are few letters between Callie and Emmy. Another aspect I disliked was that the reader does not know the time period for the book until well into the book … almost 3/4s. It took away from the story in that I was spending time focused on figuring out when things were happening rather than absorbing the story itself. While I was a little discouraged by the book, there are plenty of positive reviews and I encourage you to give this one a try to see if it appeals to you.
