Evergreen ~ Evergreen #1 (by Buck Turner)

I had no idea what I expected when I opened this book and began to read. I initially did not realize it was a young adult book. And, though I'm not the target audience, I love the story! The characters pulled me into their lives. Some of the relationships were gracious and caring, while others were vicious and based on evil. There is a thread of the supernatural, but Faith was a major aspect in the lives of several characters. As Cole transitions from life in the city to a small town in North Carolina, you will be drawn into his story … the anger, the mysteries, the friendships, his deep sense of standing up for what is right. His growth is heartwarming and his attempts that navigating life in such a different environment while dealing with the trauma of losing his father is so emotional. There is also an age old mystery that Cole and his friends are determined to thaw. This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. It stayed with me long after I read the last word and closed the book with a sigh … and a gasp at the shocking ending. You will have to read it yourself to understand what I'm talking about.
