Christmas with the Queen (by Hazel Gaynor)

I loved this delightful historical novel and the holiday focus it provided. I was able to listen to the audiobook version and the narrators did a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life. The characters were well developed and I enjoyed getting to know Olive and Jack. Watching Olive struggle with being an unwed mother who lived at home with her parents while they helped her raise her daughter and yet pursue a career was encouraging. And Jack was just a good soul and your heart aches for him as he learns to continue living after the death of his wife.

I loved the first-person dialogue between Olive, Jack, and Queen Elizabeth II. You are brought into their lives and are invested in each of their struggles. Experiencing the past that Olive and Jack have as flashbacks was intriguing and helped make the story richer.

I absolutely l oved Olive’s daughter, Lucy. She was such a delightful addition to the story and I loved every time she was a part of the book.I strongly encourage you to get lost in the pages of this book if you enjoy historical fiction … more fiction than historical … and holiday stories. It is worth the moments you will spend enjoying the holidays with them.
